Methodology: Intro Note|
Trends Are Formed by Forces, Not by Events|
From forces to direction: a structural approach to understanding trends.
Methodology (Members-only): What we mean by “trend”
In this section, “trend” refers to structural and regime-level shifts driven by long-cycle variables (e.g., history, geopolitics, policy, technology, and supply-demand constraints). It is not a prediction of short-term price movements, market timing, asset allocation, position sizing, or any form of trading guidance. We provide reusable analytical frameworks—key variables, causal mechanisms, scenario conditions, and monitoring indicators—to help readers assess uncertainty and evolving dynamics.
Methodology(仅限订阅者):我们所说的“趋势”是什么
As stated in The Art of War (Chapter on Strategic Momentum):
“Swift currents can carry boulders—such is the power of shi.”
In complex systems, decisive change rarely stems from isolated events. Rather, it emerges from directional forces formed through the sustained interaction of multiple conditions. As such forces take shape and become embedded, the influence of individual choices is increasingly constrained by broader structural dynamics.
In traditional Chinese thought, shi does not refer to short-term fluctuations or discrete incidents. It describes a structural direction formed through the long-term interaction and reinforcement of underlying conditions. When these conditions begin to constrain available options within a system, shi becomes observable.
From a research perspective, the study of shi is not about predicting specific outcomes, but about identifying which constraints are tightening and which spaces are opening. Once a structural direction is established, the impact of individual actions is often secondary to the broader context in which they occur.
In modern economic and financial systems, shi is most consistently reflected in the movement of three foundational elements: capital, resources, and population. The allocation and migration of these elements shape industrial structures, policy orientations, and long-term trajectories far more deeply than short-term market signals.
Accordingly, this methodology series does not aim to assess prices or forecast results. Instead, it seeks to translate shi into observable and verifiable data, examining how different elements interact to shape directional change. Through a structured research series, the objective is to help readers build clearer analytical perspectives and approach the logic of trend evolution with greater rationality and composure.
